Have you ever wondered what your competitors are up to online?  If you haven’t you should be and in a good old google fashion they provide a fantastic tool to see whats going on with them.

Not only is it useful for tracking your competitors but also tracking new links for your own domain.

Below is a sample alert for one of our customers POTN.

google-alerts

Each time the word POTN is mentioned google sends a note by email to let me know.

How to:

  1. If you havnt got a google account get one
  2. Go to http://www.google.com/alerts.
  3. Enter the domains or terms your interested in tracking.
  4. Google delivers details by email each time it finds something new.

Its a great way of finding out if people are talking about you or your competitors without all the hardwork of trawling the internet.

Searching for your own company name is worthwile if only to who is commenting on your site. Can you get an alert on brand names you sell or key phrases too?

Any phrase, brand, competitor. You can get alerts on everything that you want but you tend to find if you get to many they can mount up in your inbox pretty quickly

This is very smart. It’s always interesting to find out what is being written about you!
